Definition: The 404 File Not Found Error shows up when the Web page you requested can not be found by the Web server that it resides on, for a variety of reasons:
- The Web page has been moved without a forwarding address
- The Web page has been deleted
- An incorrect URL has been entered into the browser address bar
- The Web page might be temporarily unavailable due to high Web traffic or lack of server space
How to deal with a 404 File Not Found Error: Double-check the Web address and make sure it has been entered in correctly. If it has, and you feel that the 404 File Not Found message is in error, go to the Web site's homepage by backtracking within the URL:
Instead of "widget.com/green", go to "widget.com"
and use the site search to find the page you were originally looking for.
