Get both sides of the argument with Dispute Finder
Dispute Finder, a project of Intel Research and the University of California at Berkeley, is an interesting way to find disputed claims on the Web and display alternative viewpoints, thereby creating a more balanced point of view on a wide variety of topics. You can use Dispute Finder as a Firefox extension, or you can just browse the "Hot Topics" on the Dispute Finder home page.
Here's how Dispute Finder works. If you install the Firefox extension, and come across a Web page that has highlighted disputes or claims, you can click on that highlighted content and Dispute Finder will show you more sources that provide different viewpoints. In addition, if you feel really strongly about something, you can enter in a keyword into Dispute Finder's snippet search box and highlight as many instances on the Web as you can find that display this contested claim.
You can also dispute a single claim, use Dispute Finder to add evidence to an argument that you believe lacks a balanced viewpoint, or create a whole new claim on a topic (you'll want to double-check that your topic hasn't already been added to the Dispute Finder database). Dispute Finder is an interesting way to create a more balanced Web; it's kind of like a real-time, extremely focused Wikipedia for trending topics.
