Oh oh! Batten down the hatches. Here’s hoping that Bertha is nothing more than a bunch of hot air.
Very informative post. I sincerely hope Bertha doesn’t bring widespread destruction. I’ll hold good thoughts toward that end.
It is so interesting to consider these resources in light of my childhood years. I grew up in hurricane territory (Miami, Fla) and, well, I won’t mention my age, but suffice it to say, none of us had ever heard of personal computers when the storms brewed and we had to tape our windows to prevent them from dangerously breaking inside the house. We went without water for 3 days, and some of our tress were down when we emerged from our hibernations…. Thanks for the memories, Wendy!
Very helpful info! We’re big NOAA fans here. During thunderstorms/tornado warnings, I take my laptop to our basement safe area and track storm warnings and radar on NOAA with our local radio station on in the background. Much nicer than trying to work with the satellite (wind-blown!) TV.
I’ve done the hurricane thing twice…it’s always better to be prepared and track storms as they develop and move toward your home state.
What a great bunch of resources Wendy. You really need to pay attention to this weather info. We went to the Jersey Shore this weekend, and the surf was unbelievable. We weren’t allowed in because of hazardous rip tides. Unfortunately, we heard on the news this morning that three people died over the weekend because of them. So these the ripple effects of these hurricanes go way beyond the wind and rain destruction.
