Reader Poll: What do you think of the LonelyGirl15 story?

Wednesday September 13, 2006
Here's a quick synopsis of the LonelyGirl15 story: LonelyGirl15, or "Bree", as she's also known as, has a pretty popular video blog series going on over at YouTube, where she talks about her crush on a boy named Daniel, her frustration with her parents, etc.

It sounds kinda boring, but these videos are actually pretty entertaining. LonelyGirl15 keeps alluding to a secret "ceremony" that she's "training" for, and it seems to be religious in nature; plus, her parents are apparently deeply engrossed in this and expect her to participate in some way and yes, I'm a LonelyGirl15 fan (yikes, huh?). In fact, here's a few LonelyGirl15 links so you can see what I'm talking about:

ANYway, long story short, it turns out that this series of videos, which have been viewed literally thousands of times, are a master put-on job. As in, the actress is fake, the scenarios are fake, the scary parents are fake, Daniel is fake, etc.

Preliminary stories indicate that it's all part of a campaign for a TV show. Why is the LonelyGirl15 story causing so much controversy? Mostly because she caused so many people to genuinely care about her life, and yet, it was all fake. This has made a lot of people upset...and leads to the question of whether or not this will become more commonplace, and if anything on the Web can be trusted. So! Let me know your thoughts in the poll below:
