Bloglines Updates with Drag and Drop
The day I've been waiting for is finally here; just checked the Bloglines News and they've FINALLY implemented an easier organization system. In the words of C3PO, thank the Maker. More from the blurb:
"The features previously separated in Edit and Reorder/Sort modes are now consolidated into a single Edit mode found at the top of My Feeds and Clippings....Do you know how long I've been waiting for this? I've got around 300 feeds at this point and it's been a major pain in the patoot to figure out Blogline's archaic organization system. In fact, I started a rant list just yesterday that I was going to share today. Coincidence? I think not!...To manually sort, simply drag and drop into place; use the arrow keys or mouse wheel to scroll.
...We've made it easier to choose multiple items. You can now use shift-click to select ranges or ctrl-click (command-click on Mac) for separate items."
So a task that took me ALMOST AN HOUR last week now, this minute, took me-wait for it-approximately 20 seconds. Drag and drop, baby.
My Bloglines Wish List: I wish that there was a mass delete function. I have a whole folder marked "need to unsub" because Bloglines makes it about as easy as churning your own butter to mass delete. Instead, I have to go one by one by one...and I have around 40 feeds I need to unsub from (just don't read them anymore).
In addition, when looking for feeds to subscribe to within Bloglines, you'll get a whole page of great feed previews with an innocently easy looking checkbox next to all of them. Well, unfortunately, if you check off more than one box on this preview page, and try to mass subscribe, it does not seem to work; and there's no way to organize your mass subscriptions if it worked anyway.
OH! and my biggest pet peeve. I like to keep certain really good posts in my Bloglines feeds marked as new. There's an easy little checkbox on the bottom of every post within Bloglines that allows you to do that. However, once you check that off, the entire left side (where all the feeds are) completely refreshes and I lose my place in my long line of feeds to read. This is a pretty minor annoyance, but annoying nonetheless.
That's probably it for now; I really like Bloglines and haven't found another feed reader that floats my boat quite as much, and I am relieved that they finally implemented some drag and drop functionality.
More About Bloglines and RSS: What is RSS? Short for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary, this handy service is revolutionizing the way we search for content, and is a prime tool for radicalizing the way we optimize our sites as well. With RSS feeds, site owners can get their updated content to subscribers fast by submitting to various XML and RSS directories for others to both find and optimally subscribe as well. RSS is a win-win situation for anyone who wants to drive more traffic to their site.
Blog Search Engines: Blog search engines have become more and more sophisticated, and nowadays you can do a blog search on a variety of topics and hit paydirt. Here is a list of some of the best blog search engines out there - take 'em for a blog search test drive and see what you think.
Search Engines and RSS-Can They Compete? Ever since I found out about services such as del.icio.us and Bloglines, I've been an RSS addict. I get all my feeds and social bookmarks for the day in one place, rather than poking around for them in search engines. Mind you, I'm not downplaying search engines. I don't think they're going anywhere. But I think that RSS will give them a run for their money, literally.

Wendy,
We’re glad to hear you like the changes. Good news about your three Bloglines wishes. The first is already granted – mass delete by selecting all the items and dragging them to the trash can. I’ll investigate your second wish (smells like a bug) and your third is already on the Bloglines ToDo list.
Thanks!
