While we're on the subject of free books online (see previous post about Authorama), I thought I would share with you the University of Virginia Library's excellent Etext Center, a collection of English language resources. Here's just a small sampling of what's in this very extensive collection:
- The Modern English Collection: "Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, letters, newspapers, manuscripts and illustrations from 1500 to the present, arranged for browsing by author's last name or by category of interest."
- English Verse Drama Database: "more than 2,200 works by around 500 named and over 300 anonymous works."
- Early American Fiction Collection: 158 volumes by 52 authors plus 199 manuscript items and 124 non-text images.
