Six Degrees of Wikipedia

Sunday October 30, 2005
You might want to check out Six Degrees of Wikipedia on this sleepy Sunday morning. What is it? "six degrees finds the shortest path between any two Wikipedia articles in the main namespace using wiki links." Soooo, I asked six degrees to find the links between "cheese" and "Barbra Streisand" (which if you think about it probably is not that far of a stretch. I'll be here all week folks! Tip your waitress!). My results were:
  • Cheese
  • 1546
  • August 3
  • Stevie Wonder
  • Barbara Streisand
Et voila! Six degrees of separation, which by the way is this: "Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries."-Wikipedia

You can also play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, upon which the Wikipedia game is based.

(1) The Wikipedia Game says:

If you enjoy playing the Wikipedia Game, you might find this intriguing… a freeware game has been created on the same concept. It is a downloadable program which automates the game, keeps track of scores, and enforces the rules. You can download it for free here: The Wikipedia Game

Have fun & enjoy!
