Google.org

Wednesday October 12, 2005
Just spotted this: google.org is officially up, nothing really on there but a couple of quotes:
This will be the future site of Google.org – the philanthropic arm of Google. We are currently working on staffing as well as defining the goals, priorities, and principles of Google.org. We hope to have a lot more to share with you on this front in the coming year. Check back here for updates."
And a quote from Sergey Brin & Larry Page, the founders of Google:
"We hope that someday this institution will eclipse Google itself in overall world impact by ambitiously applying innovation and significant resources to the largest of the world's problems."
This would be part of the original vision of Google, which was to "do no evil." If you feel like reading up on the world's biggest search engine, here are some good resources for you:
  • Google Catalogs: Tired of catalogs jamming up your mailbox? Try Google Catalog Search, a great Google feature that allows you "search and browse mail-order catalogs online."
  • Little Known Facts About Google: Just a couple of interesting tidbits that you can casually toss about in conversation.
  • Google Quiz: For the true Google afficionado, here's the Google quiz.
