Geeks on a Boat - The Social Impact of Technology
I think this is a great idea (and I promise, I'm not in the employ of Geek Cruises). What I really find fascinating about this is that the label of geek just does not have the same stigma it used to; in fact, if you are indeed labeled a geek, it's a badge of honor. It signifies that you might actually be interested in something other than, I don't know, Britney Spears or the latest puerile reality TV show. And I love that. So even though you might be chugging tequilas on a huge cruise ship, you're learning something at the same time, which inherently saves you from dorkdom and puts you squarely in the realm of geekery.
What does this have to do with searching the Web? I found it. On the Web. ta Da!
Related: The Web is a huge part of my life, mostly because I spend a lot of time writing about it, reading about it, learning about it, etc. How has the Web affected your life? Could you imagine going completely cold turkey with no Web access? How do you think that would affect you? For a discussion of the social impact of the Web:
- How the Web Has Changed Our Lives: Using the World Wide Web has become a major part of many people's lives. We use it for communication, work, school, entertainment, and more. How has the Web become so popular, and what is the future of the Web?
- The Web=Communication: More than any technical definition, the Web is a way that people communicate.
- Is the Web a Perfect Solution?: The growth of the Web has been explosive, to say the very least.
- The Impact of the World Wide Web On Society-Accessibility: The Web has united people all over the world, but what happens when some folks have access to this technology and others don’t?
