Every time you start a new browser session, your browser automatically loads a default home page, or loads with multiple tabs that you can designate. URLSplit gives you another way to manage your browser session by using a single URL to open multiple sites.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes
Here's How:
- First, head on over to URLSplit and sign up (takes about ten seconds). Determine what sites you'd like your browser sessions to automatically open to. For instance, you could have it open to your online email client, a search engine, your favorite news site, etc. - whatever you normally check first when you first log on.
- Click the button that says "Create My New URL."
- This new URL is your key to opening up multiple sites, one at a time, simply by hitting the Home key on your browser toolbar. In order to set this up, you'll need to designate this SplitURL address as your browser home page (see How to Set Your Browser's Home Page if you're not sure how to do that).
- Once you have your URLSplit URL designated as your home page, you can simply click "home" every time you want to navigate to one of your most frequently visited sites.
- For example, I check my Gmail, Twitter, and Google Calendar accounts quite frequently throughout the day, so these three sites are in my roundup of URLSplit sites. Because they're in a specific order in my URLSplit roundup, I'm less tempted to check them all the time because I know eventually I'll get around to them (this also takes away the temptation to procrastinate!).
Tips:
- Have a few web sites in mind that you find yourself checking frequently throughout the day
- Don't worry - you can always change whatever you decide on later.
