How To Create a Personalized Starting Point on the Web by Opening Multiple Bookmarks

By Wendy Boswell, About.com

At the start of my time on the Web every day, I tend to visit the same sites - my favorite blogs, a few news sites, etc. Instead of navigating to these sites over and over again, I've set up a simple folder in Firefox that with just one click opens ALL of these sites in multiple tabs for easy access. Here's how I set it up. *Note*: This tutorial is specifically for Firefox.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes for set-up; time varies for bookmark selection

Here's How:

  1. First, you'll want to gather the sites that you visit on a regular basis. Open each one of them in their own new tab in Firefox.
  2. Next, you'll want to bookmark all of these sites. You don't have to bookmark them individually: just click ctrl+shift+D and all of the sites you've opened will be bookmarked.
  3. You'll see a pop-up window with all your Firefox bookmarks. Create a new folder for these start-up sites; I labeled mine "first look" but you can label your folder anything you like. Once you're done creating your folder, click OK.
  4. Now, go to your Firefox Bookmarks Manager (it's found by clicking on Bookmarks, then Organize Bookmarks.
  5. You'll see a two-column interface. Find the folder you just created.
  6. Click and hold the folder to drag it to the folder on the left-hand side labeled Bookmarks Toolbar Folder.
  7. The folder is now on your Firefox toolbar. The next time you open your browser, right-click on your start folder and select the option that says open all in tabs. All the sites will open for you - easy and convenient!

Tips:

  1. Make sure that you don't have any other tabs open when you open all your starting folder bookmarks at once. These tabs will override what you already have open.

What You Need:

  • Firefox
  • A set of sites that you visit on a regular basis
