Dogpile's Top Searches of 2005

Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Playstation, Rolling Stones, and More

From Jon Nolz, Director of Marketing for Dogpile.com: 2005 was a big year for online search. The number of people using search engines on an average day jumped from roughly 38 million in June 2004 to about 59 million in September 2005 – an increase of about 55%. Tracking search queries is becoming the online equivalent on Nielsen data and as 2005 comes to a close, Dogpile.com -- the only metasearch engine that searches Google, Yahoo, MSN and AskJeeves -- announced the year's most popular search terms. The following are some of the year's standout developments:

In the #1 position this year was "music lyrics," as no single comprehensive site catalogs lyrics and consumers must rely heavily on search to get them there.

Paris Hilton topped the most-searched celebrity list and came in #2 overall; Britney Spears came in at just #24 overall, but was the fifth most-searched celebrity overall.

"Wedding Vows" ranked #154, as people look online for romantic inspiration.

In 2005, Dogpile.com's hot searches include "music lyrics," top music stars and female search celebs (among the top ten women, Britney slipped to #26 overall behind Paris, Jessica, Carmen and Pamela). There was also some exciting news about the popularity of the Playstation, new gaming technology, gaming guidebooks etc.
