Question: Does Mapquest offer walking directions?
A readers writes in: "One of my favorite Web sites is Mapquest. Do you know if they offer walking directions?"
Answer: Mapquest is indeed a very useful site, offering driving directions, road trip planners, international maps and driving directions, and much more. But does Mapquest offer walking directions?
In a word, the answer is no: at this point in time (January 2011), Mapquest does not offer walking directions. However, there are other map services on the Web that do:
- Create walking directions with Google Maps: Google Maps makes it as easy as possible to find walking directions. Simply type in the address(es) you'd like to walk from and to, and you'll see four small icons from which to choose from: car, public transit, walking, and bicycling. Click on the one you want, and you'll see an extremely detailed map that you can use on your walk, mileage included.
- Track your runs and walks with Gmaps Pedometer and LogYourRun.com: Track your runs and walks via a Google Maps mashup.
