It's dead simple to use, doesn't slow down my computer, and I can save all my chats for future reference.
In order to use Skype Chat, just click a name in your Contacts list and select the Chat icon. If you want to add multiple users to a chat, join a chat that's already started, add a contact to a chat, etc., you'll want to visit the Skype Chat help page, an extremely helpful resource.
