How to Make Google the Default Search Engine

Most Web browsers on the market give users the ability to pre-set their favorite Web pages and Web tools. If you'd like to make Google the search engine that your Web browser uses by default when carrying out Web searches, you can do this quite easily.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: Five minutes or less

Here's How:

  1. If you are using Internet Explorer:

    • Find the search box in the upper right-hand corner.
    • Click the downward pointing arrow, and choose "Manage Search Providers."
    • Select Google, and click on "set as default".
  2. If you are using Firefox:

    • Find the search box in the upper right-hand corner.
    • Click on the downward pointing arrow.
    • Select Google from the list of search engines.
  3. If you are using Chrome:

    • Select the Tools menu option.
    • Go to Options, then Basics.
    • Choose Google as the default search engine.
  4. How to set Google as your homepage

You can set any Web site or search engine as your Web browser home page. For more on how to do that, read Set Your Home Page To Your Favorite Site.

  1. If you don't see the instructions for your particular version of Web browser here, or have further questions on changing your search settings, your Web browser should have a Help menu that can assist you.
