How do I find who a fax number belongs to?

By

Question: How do I find who a fax number belongs to?
A reader writes in: "I've got a fax number here that I know is important, but I don't know who it belongs to. Is there a way to track down who a fax number belongs to on the Web?"
Answer: You can use the Web to track down a fax number, but only if that number is somewhere already on the Web; i.e., it's on a company's Web page, or someone has placed it in their signature, etc. Here's how you can use the Web to track down a fax number:
  • Go to your favorite search engine. For the purposes of this demonstration, we're going to use Google.
  • Type the number (with hyphens) into the search field.
  • If the number is somewhere already online, most likely Google will find it.
Try this search with quotes around it as well if you're not successful at first (see Looking for a Specific Phrase? Use Quotation Marks). You might also want to try Zabasearch, and other specific people search engines that track this kind of information.
