MrSapo.com - All In One Search Engine Meta-Interface

By , About.com Guide

Update: As of January 2009, MrSapo.com is now Widexplorer.com.

What is MrSapo.com?

MrSapo.com is a search engine aggregator of sorts; you can use it to search through over 150 search tools without having to go to every single site. Instead, you can just type in a query to MrSapo and then click on whatever search tool you would like to get results from. Want Google search results? How about Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, or LookSmart? All you have to do is click on the handy dandy little buttons and you'll instantly see whatever search tool's site you've chosen, and the search results for your particular query. The MrSapo toolbar will stay at the top of your screen for easy access.

From PCPro, an even better explanation of what MrSapo is and what it does:

"Instead of bringing the results from multiple search sites into one results index, as is the norm, MrSapo is perhaps best described as being a meta-interface site. You get a single search box and the one search site, with buttons that enable you to perform your search at any of the many choices available, but only one at a time. This may sound like something of a backwards step when compared to a meta-search site, but it works very well."

Why should I use MrSapo instead of the actual search sites?

MrSapo just makes it easier for users to use those sites - they're not taking away any business. It's more of an access tool. Instead of going from one search engine site to another, you can have MrSapo do all the work.

More benefits of using MrSapo straight from the About MrSapo information:

  • Find more information in less time.
  • Easily compare results from different sources.
  • Query all the leading search engines from one site.
  • Conduct deeper searches on the Internet.
  • Quickly find how any company or website ranks on different search engines.
  • Access a broader range of information than with any individual search engine.

How do I refine my searches in MrSapo?

MrSapo has a couple of channels you can use; you can look specifically for images, audio and video, reference, news, and blogs in all of their 150 search engines and search tools. For example, the blog search offers search capability for Technorati, Bloglines, Feedster, Fastwise, and more. An Image channel search gives you access to Google, Yahoo, Freenet, Webshots, Getty, and Flickr, etc.. Audio and Video search will allow you to plow through SingingFish, GraceNote, MSN, Excite, and more. You can search through Dictionary, InfoPlease, ComPlanet, and Ed.gov (a nice touch) with the Reference channel search option, and for News? You've got WorldNews, Topix, the Guardian, the NY Times, Google News, and a lot more.

Why should I use MrSapo?

  • Convenience. It's nice to get different perspectives on the same search query fairly quickly, without having to switch between windows and tabs.
  • Ease of use. MrSapo is REALLY easy to use. There's not a steep learning curve here. Just type a search query, hit your selection, and you're off and running.
  • Lots of options. I appreciate looking at many different search results because that's kind of my job as your Web Search Guide, but even beyond that, it's fun to see what is indexed by different search tools.

Note: Search engines change frequently, so the information in this article can and will get outdated as more information or features about search engine MrSapo.com are released.
