What is GoDefy.com?

GoDefy.com is an extremely specialized comparison shopping search engine; the only products that it features have to do with internet marketing, search marketing, or search engine optimization. Now, that's specialized. They offer a wide variety of offerings, from a surprisingly long list of merchants (surprising only because there are so many people and organizations selling these particular niche products and information).

The basic goalplan of GoDefy: "GoDefy's mission is to bring the world's internet marketing products and services into one location, and organize it so that marketers can find the perfect solution, get user support, and industry news, when they want it, in the least amount of time and effort." The name GoDefy comes from the founder's personal philosophy of "help(ing) people defy tradition and conventional wisdom, and escape the rat race to build a free, happy, loving, financially secure, and self-fulfilling life for oneself and their family." It's an extremely focused search engine, as I mentioned before, which would qualify it for the term vertical search engine as well, since it targets a smallish topic and nothing else.

GoDefy Home Page

GoDefy is a comparison shopping search engine, which means that you get to compare prices and products for whatever you're wanting to look at. For example - on the home page, there are the GoDefy Top 3, with a drop down menu that you can manipulate to display the top 3 best-selling products (default), the top 3 latest products, and a ton more options, including Google AdSense, link exchange, and pay per click advertising. Categories are text-linked across the top of the page as well as in a column down the right-hand side, and there is both a categorical site map and an A-Z site map to help you find exactly what you're looking for.

In order to save your searches or compare saved products, etc., you have to register and sign in. GoDefy promises on the registration page that "we respect your privacy and will never pass on your personal details without your prior consent." If you want more information about this, feel free to read their privacy policy, but a quick read-through didn't reveal any obviously nefarious schemes.

Searching with GoDefy

Again, to really get the most out of your searches you're going to have to register, but I was able to come up with interesting results right off the bat for the search term search engine. Click through on any of the results and you'll get a standard shopping result: product information, related and similar items, testimonials, descriptions, etc. GoDefy saves your recently viewed items and recently viewed categories at the bottom of your search results pages.

While this is a niche engine and the focus is indeed very small, my only beef really is with the product results. I think that it would be nice to have a wider selection of products, perhaps a category for those who have no idea what any of this highly specialized stuff is, and maybe even a search tutorial, although the search process on GoDefy is indeed very streamlined and as non-fussy as possible.

If you have a suggestion to improve GoDefy, you get to make your voice heard. GoDefy is still in beta, so I'm sure that they welcome constructive criticism and suggestions that you might have at this time. In addition, you can track your searches via RSS, or use GoDefy search suggestions in order to narrow down your search more efficiently.

Why Should I Use GoDefy?

It's a lot easier to find a needle in a small sewing case than in a large haystack. That's what vertical search engines, in which number GoDefy would be, are all about. If you're in the market for an extremely specialized internet market shopping comparison search engine, than you would want to use GoDefy in order to cut down on time better spent working, playing, or my personal favorite, taking a nap.
