Why Answers

Why Answers basically tells you a few good reasons why you should use Answers.com, according to the company, anyway. This would include:
  • The right tool for the right query
  • Speedy results
  • No answer overload
  • Reliable sources that are credible and footnote-worthy
  • Broad range of topics available
From my use of Answers.com, I can attest to these being quite true. I'll go more into that in a bit when I tell about searching with Answers.

Today and Most Popular

The Today page gives you all the events that have happened in history on the day that you're looking at. These days are all archived in a searchable directory. You can also make the Today page your homepage by dragging the text link on the top of the page to your browser's Home button.

The Most Popular page tells you what are the most searched for queries at Answers.com for the entire week. You can also see what words got the most alt-click searches from the One-Click Answers option you can download. Just like the Today page, the Most Popular searches are all archived in a searchable directory.

Answers.com for Teachers

Here's where Answers really won my vote. They have absolutely fantastic resources for teachers and students alike, including Lesson Plan Tools, good instructions on how to make a classroom website with an interactive learning center, ESL helps, a long list of search operators, tips, and tricks to use when using Answers.com, and rotating special features for teachers. Right now, Answers is targeting Constitution Day, for example.

Answers.com for Students

As an on and off college student myself (only 20 credits left!), I am wildly appreciative of Answers.com's Citations feature. The text states: "As Internet plagiarism becomes a more serious issue, Answers.com has incorporated citation functionality, to help students cite their work. Clicking on the "Cite" button (which can be found next to each copyright at the bottom of each Answer Page), will direct them to a fully-formatted citation, ready to include in a bibliography. They can even choose from the MLA, Chicago and APA styles." Did you read that? The citation is already formatted. Glory Hallelujah. Seriously, the citations part of a paper can take longer to do than the paper itself, especially if you have a long list of sources. This is an excellent feature that I plan on using not only for my own college courses, but for my own kids as well.
