Find a Synonym with Ask.com

By Wendy Boswell, About.com

I'm constantly in the need for a good synonym, and since the Google Synonym Finder tool does not seem to be working anymore, I decided to check out Ask's synonym finder feature.

Here's what you need to do.

  • Navigate to Ask.com.
  • Enter in your word prefaced by the search operator dictionary: or thesaurus:. So your search query would look like this: dictionary:organize.
  • Voila! If you used the dictionary operator, you'll have a few things available to you right off the bat, including an encyclopedia, a thesaurus, and of course, the dictionary definition of the word. Plus, if you're not sure how to say the word you're looking for, click on the little audio symbol next to the word: you'll hear it spoken via .wav file (free Apple Quicktime plug-in required).
By the way, I find Ask's thesaurus feature much easier to use the Google's; mostly because I can never remember where that darn tilde symbol is on my keyboard.
