Use the Web to Find Mailing Lists

By Wendy Boswell, About.com

What is a mailing list? Basically, a mailing list is a discussion group via email. You can participate via email in the mailing list, and most mailing lists are either moderated (meaning that all email messages are screened before publishing) or unmoderated. Here are a few places you can find mailing lists on the Web:
  • Topica Mailing Lists: Nicely categorized by subject; there are thousands of mailing lists here.
  • CoolList.com: "Coollist is a web-based system for anyone to easily create FREE mailing lists." Many subjects available here.
  • CataList.com: with over 80,000 mailing lists at the time of this writing. CataList is the official catalog of LISTSERV mailing lists.
  • Yahoo Groups: While the title says "groups", this is also the home of the widest selection of free mailing lists on the Web.
  • Apple Mailing Lists: There's a mailing list for every kind of Apple enthusiast here.
