The Best Optical Illusions on the Web
Find a Good Optical Illusion

By Wendy Boswell, About.com

One of the most fun activities to do on the Web is find good optical illusions. I don't understand HOW these work, but they are cool nonetheless. Here are just a few optical illusions I was able to dig up:
  • Big Spanish Castle: Stare at the castle, and eventually you will see it be illustrated in full-color - but it's black and white.
  • Little Color Illusion: Similar to Big Spanish Castle, but with a different picture.
  • Dragon Illusion: This one takes a bit of work but it's worth it. Download the file and print it out; and then figure out why the dragon's eyes follow you around the room.
  • Dynamic Optical Illusions: "where nothing is as it seems" is the motto of this site, and boy, they aren't kidding. Lots of really interesting optical illusions here.
  • Moving or Not?: Okay, I have to admit I stared at this one for at least five minutes and I still don't know if the beans were moving or not.
  • 64 Optical Illusions and Visual Phenomena: Simply an amazing array of optical illusions here.
  • Counter-Rotating Spirals Illusion: this one is wild! Stare at the spiral, and then the other side of your browser window.
  • Illusions and Paradoxes: "This page illustrates that our visual perception cannot always be trusted."
  • 3D Stereogram Images: There are a lot of optical illusions here; there's also a section where you're invited to make your own.
  • Optical Illusions: "Challenge your skills of perception. This site is all about the many different forms of Optical Illusion. Whether these optical illusions are conveyed through fractals, architecture, art, or other forms, they are bound to remind you that seeing is not believing."
  • Dr. Angry and Mr. Smiles: this one is weird - two faces change literally right before your eyes.
