Guide Review - Connecting Kids and the Web by Allen C. Benson

I found a lot to like about this book. While it's ostensibly a "handbook" (that's what the title says, anyway), I found it to be more of a reference manual, and an extensively researched one. There's all kinds of great information in here, anything from browser basics to TelNet travels. And, it includes a CD-Rom that has a great collection of links, lesson plans, webquests, and software for children.

Most likely nowadays the average kid down the block knows more about the Web than we parents would like to think. However, there's a lot more to the Web than just finding pictures of Hilary Duff. This book shows you, the parent/teacher/librarian, how to equip kids with the knowledge they need to interact with the Web safely and intelligibly. This book is full of information that will help adults learn what they need to know about the Web, and than help these adults to pass this on to the kids-in a fun, creative way. Readers will find Connecting Kids and the Web to be innovative in its use of technology and lesson plans. Once children start to tap the depths of the Web and what they can learn to do with it from this book, they won't want to stop.
