Say you've run across a site that you really like, and you'd like to find sites that are basically the same but perhaps offer different content, more of this, a little bit of that, etc. Here are seven ways to help you discover more of what you like on the Web:
Similar Sites is easy to use. Just type in the URL of the site you're trying to find, and SimilarSites will pull up a nice list of relevant results, with rankings, related topics, and site reviews. If you see a site you like in the results, you can drill down further with the "sites like (insert name here)" link.
Using Google to find similar sites is easy. Simply use this search string: related:mysite.com, and Google will return a whole host of sites that are similar to the one that you're looking for. Both Yahoo and Bing support this search string as well. All three search engines will retrieve different results, so it's worth a try to experiment with this search query at all three sites.
Use a Feed Reader: Most feed readers offer this feature. In Google Reader, click on a feed, then Feed Settings, then More Like This. You'll be treated to a list of similar blogs or sites that you can immediately subscribe to.
Similar Pages: This is a Firefox add-on that works in the background of what you're working on to bring you websites similar to each site that you're currently looking at.
SimilarSiteSearch is streamlined with a Google-ish home page interface and search results. I liked how similar site topics are front and center on top of your search results so you can keep exploring.
