Follow me on:

If you've ever wanted to create a screencast - a short video of something happening in your browser, such as a tutorial - then you're in luck, because there are some pretty fantastic (and free!) screencasting tools available to you on the Web. Here are just five that I've run across lately:

camstudio

CamStudio offers you the ability to record any screen activity on your computer and turn it into a high-quality streaming video you can share with friends or colleagues.

jing

Jing lets you take instant images of your screen or record videos of onscreen action and then share it instantly, via email, over the Web, or instant messenger.

screencaster

ScreenToaster is a free online screen recorder. No download required; you can record screencasts, tutorials, demos, training, lectures, etc. and then embed them on Webpages or send by email.

screenr

Screenr is a screencast tool made especially for those of us who might want to share something with our Twitter followers (playable anywhere on the Web).

wink Wink is a free tutorial and presentation creation software; you can create all sorts of interesting videos, complete with sound.

Great list!

I tried http://www.screentoaster.com/ and it seem that the link is either dead, or the site is gone. Just wanted to pass it on.

Thanks!
