I'm introducing a new(ish) feature here at About Web Search on Saturdays: a quick link round-up of various search-related news items that I've found interesting over this past week and either shared here with you, or on my Twitter, or even at FriendFeed. As you might guess, there is a LOT of news coming out of the search tech world - hopefully, this quick summary will help you feel more informed of what's going on out there on the Web.
- Jump to the information you want right from the search snippets: Google introduces a new way to get to the information you want within a site fast.
- Launching Streaming Results: Cuil (see more info here) adds real-time search results from top blogs and social media networks.
- Monopoly City Streets: COOLEST thing ever, I don't think chores are getting done today. This is a dual effort between Hasbro and Google Maps. You can buy your own neighborhood!
- Sparefoot: Put this one in the "why didn't I think of that?" file. Sparefoot finds storage facilities for you using your zip code.
- Baidu is BIG: Great look at Baidu and its founder, Robin Li (Baidu is the largest Chinese language search engine).
- Are we not Twitterpated anymore?: New stats indicate that Twitter might be losing its initial luster.
- Place Pages for Google Maps: "A Place Page is a webpage for every place in the world, organizing all the relevant information about it. By every place, we really mean *every* place — there are Place Pages for businesses, points of interest, transit stations, neighborhoods, landmarks and cities all over the world."
- Is the Internet Melting Our Brains?: Argh, brainsssssss.....
- Online & Radio Use Rises; TV Still Most Credible: TV might still be the most credible, but I tend to research what I see on TV on the Web, see if it's right, etc. How about you?
Overall, a pretty busy week in search. Was there some Web tech/social media/search/Web 2.0/just plain cool news item that you didn't see listed here? Share with us in the comments.
