Find quality results with Hakia, a collection of librarian-recommended Web sites
If you're looking for a search engine that churns out extremely high-quality results, then you'll want to take a look at Hakia, a search engine that searches through a collection of carefully vetted, librarian approved sites for the exact answer to your question. For example:
- How much should you stretch before exercise?
- How does ice affect polar bear populations?
- What can go wrong riding a motorcycle?
Hakia also offers you the opportunity to compare each of your search queries to Google, Yahoo, and MSN - just click the Compare to Google button on the right-hand side and you'll get a side by side comparison. I would recommend Hakia for when you need quick, factual answers.

Question and Answer Search Engines: If you're looking for a specific topic with a relatively narrow focus, question and answer search engines might just be what you're looking for. These search engines aggregate the vast resources of the Web into strictly defined categories; in other words, they make it extremely easy to find something.

Please! Are you not in a position to ban these distracting ads? I welcome advertising but this kind only makes me resolve to block the company, and question the intelligence of people who support them. Are you so young you do not realize how visually disturbing the dancing balls, and moving ducks are? My next step will be to avoid pages with them on. A pity because your content is truly valuable. Advertising that alienates? Think about it and do me the courtesy of a reply.
On the same theme as the last comment, I object strongly to the dishonest ad pretending that I have a message. This is not good for you Wendy, nor for this very good site. You know what goes onto these pages – if you have no say you might like to mail me with a contact at About.com with whom I can communicate. Bob
Hi Bob:
I apologize for the poor experience you had this morning on the About Web Search site. Google serves ads based keywords on the page and unfortunately I don’t have any control over those. However, I can report the offending ads directly to Google and get them booted off. :>) Rest assured that I will be following up on this issue, and I hope that you continue to visit us here at About Web Search. Thanks!
