Ex-Google engineers have a new search engine - and it's Cuil
Believe me, there are a lot of search engines out there (at least 100!). However, when former Google engineers decide to create a new search engine, I tend to pay just a little bit more attention; after all, Google has consistently been one of the top search engines in the entire search world.
Enter Cuil, a slick, minimalist search engine with a magazine look and feel. Cuil claims to have indexed over 121 billion Web pages, so it is quite a large search engine, plus, the search interface returns quite a few related categories and search terms that can potentially launch your search net quite a bit wider.
Give Cuil a try and tell me what you think in the comments - I quite like it. Here are some other search engines and search tools that I've been using a lot lately:
- Mahalo: Mahalo is a human powered search directory that uses actual human editors to compile results alongside Google-powered results.
- USA.gov: USA.gov, formerly known as FirstGov.gov, is an absolutely mammoth search engine/portal that gives the searcher direct access to searchable information from the United States government, state governments, and local governments.
- IMDB: The Internet Movie Database is the biggest movie database on the Web. Featuring top movies, movie news, movie reviews, movie trailers, movie showtimes, DVD movie reviews, celebrity profiles, etc., the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) truly is a mammoth depository of movie information.
