The New York Times has an interesting article about MySpace, mostly focused on how the site will be able to further monetize itself without alienating its target demographic - namely, the youngun's. Here's a snippet:
"Mr. Murdoch's initial strategy seems to be to do nothing to interfere with whatever alchemy attracted so many young people to MySpace in the first place. So he has embraced Mr. DeWolfe, 40, and Tom Anderson, 30, the company's president and co-founder, and their close-knit management team. And he is providing them with the cash to reinforce MySpace's shaky computer system and to hire armies of sales representatives to bring in more money from the banner ads and sponsored pages that MySpace sells."Like it or hate it, MySpace is here to stay. Seventy million users (and counting) can't be wrong, and MySpace can't be simply tossed to the side or discounted because of it's very un-Web 2.0-ish look and feel, the fact that it's down half the time, or that it just makes NO sense whatsoever. It's an integral part of the Web now, and those folks who pay attention to this phenom and figure out ways to serve and sell those people who actively use MySpace will only benefit. And that ends my semi-rant of the day...well, at least for the hour.
