Google Calendar is Live

Thursday April 13, 2006
No more leaked screenshots - this is the real thing. Google Calendar is live and ready to go; more from the site:
"Simplify. Organize. (And relax.) Organizing your schedule shouldn't be a burden. That's why we've created Google Calendar-our free online shareable calendar service. With Google Calendar, it's easy to keep track of all your life's important events- birthdays, reunions, little league games, doctor's appointments- all in one place.

Using Google Calendar, you can add events and invitations effortlessly, share with friends and family (or keep things to yourself), and search across the web for events you might enjoy. It's organizing made easy."

A few basics:
  • It's integrated with Gmail, and you can add events to your calendar without even leaving your Gmail inbox.
  • You can share calendars with other people or whole groups of people, and since I'm right in the middle of spring sports season this especially appeals to me.
  • You can get reminders sent to your mobile phone.
Looks nice, works good, and is very streamlined. I invite you to try it out and give me your impressions in the comments below.

I love everything about Google Calendar, with one MAJOR exception. The general info states that your data is never erased from the calendar, no matter how old it is- not true!!! This is a huge problem for small business owners like me. My info for tax returns, bs. expenses, client info, etc. etc. etc. is all stored on my Google Calendar since sometime in 2005. Everything from June ‘07 back has been erased. Their tech support is very difficult to contact. So far, there has been no way of resolving the the issue. I’ve seen posts where others have had the same problem, unfortunately.
