Image Search on the Web

Tuesday January 31, 2006
Find images on the Web using these image-specific search engines, directories, and collections. Not all of the images can be used without permission, so be sure to check with the owner of the image before using it on your blog or site. There are also quite a few very specialized image collections in my list, including NASA images, Civil War photographs (be sure to spend some time at this site!), and the New York Public Library's free collection of digital images.

Image Search Engines: Pretty much any search engine out there will help you find images (for a list of search engines that I've profiled, check out 100 Search Engines in 100 Days - Table of Contents, or How to Pick a Search Engine). There are a couple of image-specific search engines; including Picsearch and Ditto.com.

Clip Art: You can find plenty of free clip art on the Web; read my list of Free Clip Art-Buttons-Graphics- Icons-Images on the Web.
