Yahoo Desktop Search

Wednesday September 28, 2005
Yahoo Desktop Search, in beta since around January, is now all grown up and ready to "find anything on your computer with the power of Yahoo Search." Did anyone else get that He-Man vibe there? "I....Have...THe...POWERRRRRRR!! of Yahoo Desktop Search." No? Just me? Come ON, people. Grayskull! Merman! She-ra! Skeletor!

Anyway, there's some fun new features, this from the Yahoo Desktop Search information page:

  • Search for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, text, HTML, ZIP and over 300 other file types.
  • View, reply, forward and print emails after you've found them (this is one feature that Google Desktop, at least when I've used it, does not have. If I find an email from Outlook, I have to go to Outlook and find it again.)
  • Save your favorite searches for one-click reuse.
  • Set individual indexing options for each type of content.
I'll do some more testing and post more of my thoughts later. For now, if you have tested it out already, talk about it in the forum.
