Search Engine Strategies, Day One
Monday August 8, 2005
Here are the sessions I'll be attending today:
- Introduction to Search Engine Marketing: I really want to start the conference out right by listening to Danny Sullivan; I've never had the chance to do so.
- Personalized Search & Search History: This is the vertical search track; I wrote about vertical search earlier this week and I'll have much more to say after this session.
- Vox Populi: Understanding the role of consumer-generated content: This one looks especially interesting: "Consumers are getting more and more of their brand information from sources such as blogs and consumer feedback sites. How can marketers harness the power of these unofficial sources? Which group of consumers should be most valued by marketers looking to capitalize on these sites? Learn from some of the top companies aggregating consumer feedback on brands." Consumer generated media is just a fancy way of saying word of mouth. You do it every time you write a blog post, or post on a message board, or leave a comment on someone's site. You are the consumer, and you are generating the media.
